Life has slowed down, wondrously slow. Hunting season is over. The pre-dawn shootings have been replaced with quacking ducks arguing melodically about where to have breakfast. Finally, it’s peaceful and we have time to count our toes and ponder our new life; grace and beauty in all things. Maryland life offers all manner of inspiration, even a poem about tractors:
There’s the love of a child that’s unafraid.
There’s the pure and true
love of a maid.
But the most gentle love,
the most tender love,
even deeper than the love for mother,
is the infinite, soulful, passionate love,
for a John Deere tractor’s green and yellow color.
Yes, the tractor has arrived; a perfect medly of yellow and green; the snow pusher already attached. The tires sport more chains than a Hollywood pimp. If only there was snow. Nonetheless, the three-car garage now holds a he-man SUV, a girly sports car and a baby tractor. We are a family.
With our newfound country life, comes country eating. No longer able to skip over to Whole Foods or Bristol Farms at a moment's notice, food shopping comes with forethought, planning and availability. Right now root vegetables are on display so we partake of beets, onions, carrots, etc in all forms. Carrots, for instance, morph into carrot cake, carrot soup, carrot juice, diced carrots, carrots in stews (you get the idea). Scott is trying to concoct a carrot martini but I don’t think that idea holds much promise.
